Useful local guides
Your first local club run
Find a running group and arrive knowing what to expect.
Choose a suitable group
Look for a running club in your area, then contact it about a beginner or walking group. A club’s published running programme is a starting point; confirm the next session rather than assuming last week’s arrangements apply.
Ask before you arrive
Check distance, pace, terrain, start and finish points, whether visitors may join and whether a trial fee applies. Ask what happens if you need to turn back. For early runs, ask about lighting, group arrangements and visibility.
Plan your morning
Set out comfortable shoes and appropriate clothing, bring the water the organiser suggests and arrive early enough to meet the session leader. Choose a manageable session and let the leader know you are new. Add a passport stamp only after your visit.
